Hide & See is a device that hides
information in plain sight, with LCD
screens displaying images that communicate
coded information. On a close-up
of a woman’s face, missed telephone
calls are cleverly announced by the
sudden appearance of dots, like beauty
marks; red dots around the mouth
represent calls from important numbers.
An image of a couple strolling down a
beach communicates someone’s whereabouts;
the color of the bag held by the
man in the picture changes for home or
office or other set locations. The information
is readily accessible only to the
person who knows the code, allowing,
for example, emergencies to be tracked
during a meeting without the constant
checking of digital devices. Hide & See
also alerts us to the overcommunication
anxiety that pervades everyday life.
