This rigid prosthesis, shown in a series
of portraits, covers the lips and exposes
the gums, making communication easier
and more explicit by forcing automatic
facial expressions, almost grimaces.
It was conceived for people who
feel insecure about their appearance
and their social skills and are therefore
compelled to be excessively smart and
communicative in every circumstance.
As often happens with timid people,
awkwardness is replaced by aggressiveness,
and the exaggerated teeth-baring
smile is a safe conversation-stopper.
