The plates and bowls of the Broken
White series are born pristine, white,
and evenly glazed. As they are used,
cracks and wrinkles develop in a
decorative organic pattern. The dishes
betray their age and become more
beautiful with passing time. Broken
White was commissioned by the
Dutch design producer Droog Design
for an exhibition in Lille, France, in 2004,
the year the city was celebrated as
a European Capital of Culture.
