Transportation Town is an interactive online game commissioned by a citizen advisory group in Whatcom County, Washington, to educate the public about regional transportation options and engage residents in the transportation planning process. The goal of the game is to plan a city from scratch and make smart transportation decisions—meaning those that keep mobility high, pollution low, and residents happy. As the city’s population increases, more alternative transportation options become available, boosting commerce and increasing quality of life. At the end of the game, players are scored on each of the three main factors. As they play the game, users also have the opportunity to read about the characteristics and advantages of different transportation systems, both in a broad sense and in ways that specifically reflect Whatcom County.
