Esther Adler is Curator in MoMA’s Department of Drawings and Prints. Her exhibitions include Joseph E. Yoakum: What I Saw (2021), Betye Saar: The Legends of Black Girl’s Window (with Christophe Cherix, 2019), Charles White: A Retrospective (with Sarah Kelly Oehler, 2018), Charles White—Leonardo da Vinci. Curated by David Hammons (2017), and Dorothea Rockburne: Drawing Which Makes Itself (2013). Her books for MoMA include Romare Bearden: Patchwork Quilt (2022) and Charles White: Black Pope (2017), and she has contributed to numerous other museum publications. Adler works closely with curatorial colleagues on the changing collection installations presented on the Museum’s fourth floor, and on championing acquisitions that will find their way there. She holds an MA in art history from the University of Maryland, and a BA from Brandeis University.
