Whether the genre’s monsters are grotesque figures of the imagination that manifest nature’s vengeance, insidiously humanoid in appearance, or the film’s supernatural love interest, the fabulous creatures of horror are rarely less than spectacular reminders that humankind is, ultimately, the endangered species.
