“The more I draw, the more I admire other cartoonists,” says Caroline Cash. In this month’s installment of Drawn to MoMA, the Philadelphia-based cartoonist, whose work has appeared in the New Yorker and VICE, explores the process of immersing herself in the visual worlds of her artistic influences. “It can be helpful to look at what others have done and see some of the choices they’ve made—to see what resonates with you and what doesn’t,” she says. “At the core of it all, I see my relationship with these comics as that of student to a teacher.” Yet Cash isn’t worried about losing the idiosyncratic thread of her own style: “I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out my own distinct way of storytelling, and the more I work the more distinct it will become.”
Caroline Cash is a Philadelphia-based cartoonist. Her work has appeared in the New Yorker, VICE, the Chicago Reader, the Nib, and other publications. She is currently working on her award-winning series PeePeePooPoo.
