The simplicity of this textile pattern reflects the frugal climate of World War II and was inspired by Raymond's experience with block-printed textiles in Japan during the 1930s. She had a close working relationship with her architect husband, Antonin Raymond, and her textiles were frequently used in the interiors of buildings he designed. This fabric was part of a prizewinning series submitted to The Museum of Modern Art's Organic Design competition, though only her husband's name appeared in the credits.
