Exploring American archetypes and media culture, Drexler collages enlarged versions of images from movie posters, magazines, and newspapers into her paintings. An example from her Men and Machines series, in which men are shown at work operating machinery, Hold Your Fire suggests a man adjusting a film projector, but the object could just as easily be a weapon.

In 2018–19, MoMA collaborated with Google Arts & Culture Lab on a project using machine learning to identify artworks in installation photos. That project has concluded, and works are now being identified by MoMA staff.
