From the famed comic strip, A Doonesbury Special follows the cohabitating, counterculture characters as their lifestyles, attitudes, and concerns change with age. Faith recalled, “Finishing Doonesbury without John was honestly the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my whole life. I had to deliver one sequence at a time to NBC and go through censors and committees, and all the time suffering from cancer. Garry was very, very supportive.”

In this film, based on the 13th-century Indian poet Kabir’s writings, man searches through a maze of contradictions for harmony and resolution. Upside Down has been praised for its “Micro-like ritualistic designs.” Commenting on the nature of Hubley filmmaking as a family affair, Ray Hubley recalls, “Though she may get junior billing to regular cast stalwarts Emily and Georgia here, my wife Deborah Peretz was thrilled to contribute a voice to this exemplary short, and so be welcomed to the clan by her new mother-in-law Faith.“
