Isaac Julien: Lessons of the Hour presents an immersive portrait of Frederick Douglass, one of the most important orators, writers, and statespersons of the 19th century. An abolitionist who gained freedom from chattel slavery in 1838, Douglass tirelessly agitated for the freedom and civil rights of Black Americans and subjugated people around the world. Join us for a member-only viewing of the video installation, followed by a conversation led by curator Ugochukwu-Smooth C. Nzewi and curatorial assistant Erica DiBenedetto. Members will be encouraged to participate in the conversation and ask questions. Arrive early to explore the historical objects on view with the work.
