Ellen Lewis and Amanda Mackey won an award for their casting of this beloved 90s comedy about the first female professional baseball league. It was one of the few Hollywood films to offer so many plum roles to women, led by Geena Davis (riding high after Thelma and Louise), someone named Madonna, the relative newcomers Rosie O’Donnell and Lori Petty, and Tom Hanks reuniting with director Penny Marshall after the blockbuster success of Big.
