“A Holly Golightly for the ’90s” is how one critic described Parker Posey, who at long last got to show off her comic chops in a leading role after scene-stealing performances in Dazed and Confused and Sleep with Me. The downtown club scene’s answer to Whit Stillman’s Metropolitan (with affectionate nods toward Desperately Seeking Susan), Party Girl —a cult favorite, now celebrating its 28th anniversary in a new 4K restoration—is a wistful reminder of a now-bygone New York of misfits, miscreants, and librarians who just wanna have fun. Laura Rosenthal recalls, “I was working with casting director Juliet Taylor when Daisy von Scherler Meyer asked me to help her find Mary. Parker Posey came into an audition at Juliet’s office so I met her there and knew we found our party girl.”
