Just Above Midtown Gallery (JAM), the subject of our new exhibition, prioritized an expansive idea of Black art characterized by an open-ended process of playing with materials and ideas. Join curator Lilia Rocio Taboada for a conversation and live viewing of behind-the-scenes, archival footage produced by artist Randy Williams and JAM's founder Linda Goode Bryant. The footage captures JAM artists, staff, and friends at the gallery and in artists’ studios, documenting their unique relationships, the experimentation that took place, and the creative processes that made JAM a hub.
Please note: Due to unforeseen circumstances, Thomas (T.) Jean Lax is unable to participate in this program.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the conversation will begin at 7:00 p.m. The exhibition will be open for viewing after the event. Please enter through the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building at 4 W 54th Street. Advance registration is required and capacity is limited; reservation admits two and is nontransferable.
Curatorial Conversations are typically open to members at the Explore category and above—but this special edition is open to all members, excluding those at the Annual Pass category. To enjoy conversations with curators and more special events all year long, become an Explore member.
