Katie Mitchell, 21st-century kid from Michigan, dreams of heading off to film school in California. Her father Rick is thoroughly old school, technophobic, and not ready to let her go. Throw in mom, little brother, a cute(?) dog, and a robot uprising, and you get one of the best family films of 2021. Director Mike Rianda, along with collaborators Phil Lord and Chris Miller, combine teenage angst, parental anxiety, and energetic action scenes into a poppy, fun ride that is, yes, fun for the whole family.
