Move over, Fleabag. In a performance that garnered her the top acting award at Cannes, Renate Reinsve is the new face of millennial disaffection in Joachim Trier’s clever romantic comedy. Headstrong, with a short attention span and a mischievous air, Reinsve’s Julie carries the film through the exquisitely paced ups and downs of her (mis)adventures in life and love. Trier studies the messy, tender place between being adrift and finding yourself right where you need to be in a fresh take on an age-old question: What does it take to truly be one’s own person?
