Albert and David Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin’s direct-cinema classic Gimme Shelter, chronicling the infamous free Rolling Stones show at Altamont Speedway in December of 1969, is both an electrifying concert documentary and a real-time autopsy of an era-ending tragedy. We’re alternating it with A Well Spent Life, Les Blank’s loving portrait of blues guitarist Mance Lipscomb, for a full day of music on film.
