Brightening afternoons at the museum for the coming eight months, the Museum kicks off its most ambitious animation retrospective in over eighty-five years of programming with this special evening event. Bringing together key artists from the generation that made New York a center for independent animation in the late 20th century, the program features a trim selection of personal and commissioned work demonstrating the creative range of styles and techniques at play. Following the films, Robby Gilbert, author of “New York Animation 1966-1999: A City in Motion,” will moderate a conversation with John Canemaker, George Griffin, Emily Hubley, Candy Kugel, Jeff Scher, Skip Blumberg and J.J. Sedelmaier, about their careers and pre-digital animation practices on that legendary New York Scene.
