Some of Carlo Rambaldi’s earliest special effects work appears in Riccardo Freda’s epic fantasy adaptation of Greek author Apollonius Rhodius’s poem Argonautica, in which King Jason of Thessaly and his Argonauts embark on an epic journey in search of the mythical Golden Fleece while invaders and natural disasters threaten his home city. Sailors, soldiers, monsters, and Greek gods come together in a journey of Odyssean proportions—abetted by Carlo Rustichelli’s score—presented here in a new restoration by Cinecittà.
