MoMA Teacher Workshop: Jacob Lawrence and the Great Migration
Spend the day with museum educators from The Museum of Modern Art and The Phillips Collection, Washington, DC, as we explore Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series. Presented in conjunction with the special exhibition One-Way Ticket: Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series and Other Visions of the Great Movement North, which reunites all 60 panels for the first time at MoMA in 20 years, classroom teachers from a range of disciplines will learn strategies for engaging with the artworks and ways to connect their rich history to classroom curriculum. The workshop will include guided, interactive experiences and independent viewing time in MoMA’s galleries. Additionally, participants will learn interdisciplinary strategies for planning arts-integrated classroom lessons from The Phillips Collection, and will gain insights from MoMA staff on the development of the exhibition. The workshop will conclude with a presentation from a MoMA partner school about the ways in which they have incorporated the work of Jacob Lawrence, his process, and history into a school-wide collaborative project.
