This summer, week by week, artist by artist, Warm Up continues to outdo itself—and last weekend was no exception. It saw a DJ set from Brooklyn’s own Obey City; Fade to Mind Records’  vocalist, Kelela, performing a live set and singing with DJ L-VIS 1990 (who also turned in a stellar DJ set).

Following last week’s sweaty dance party with Anthony Naples, DJ Qu, Kim Ann Foxman, and the Martinez Brothers, the July 13 Warm Up, the third of the season, welcomes a number of adventurous producers from across North America to the courtyard at MoMA PS1.

For those in attendance at MoMA PS1’s 2012 events, there was one palpable difference from years past: more people. 

On two occasions, the adjoining courtyards, under the misty gaze of Wendy, hit sold-out capacity.

Last Saturday’s Warm Up—the second-to-last of the 2012 season—went down in superhero style.

After headliner James Holden called from LAX with the heartbreaking news that his flight would be delayed well past performance time, a flurry of phone calls, text messages, and e-mails went out from the Warm Up curator crew to find a last-minute substitute.

Last Saturday morning the clouds cleared just in time to make way for the summer rays that always take a Warm Up party to that bonus level of euphoria.

The event began with RVNG Intl.’s Mattheww, who bathed the dance floor with a meditative mix of celestial anti-bangers.

This past weekend, one of the summer’s most anticipated lineups led to a jam-packed afternoon. It was the biggest Warm Up crowd we’ve seen—it marked our highest attendance to date—and one of the all-around strongest lineups from start to finish.

Rain doesn’t stop a NYC crowd. When last Saturday morning arrived, the skies were grey and ominous, with occasional downpours through the next few hours that threatened to make Warm Up a very soggy affair.

We had an amazing day on Saturday. Those looking for a diverse and danceable selection of current New York sounds were well satisfied by the third Warm Up of the year. The beautiful weather and NY-centric lineup combined for an incredibly enthusiastic, record-breaking crowd day.
