This year marks the 50th anniversary of Yoko Ono’s 1965 performance of Morning Piece in New York City. To commemorate Morning Piece and in conjunction with Yoko Ono: One Woman Show, 1960–1971</a>, MoMA and PopRally have organized YOKO ONO MORNING PEACE 2015, a global sunrise celebration on the summer solstice, Sunday, June 21.

As members of MoMA’s PopRally committee, our goal is to provide our audience with a dynamic program of unique, one-of-a-kind experiences that engage with our exhibitions and collection. So when we received word that Sofia Coppola—who is herself represented in MoMA’s film collection—had directed a new video for Phoenix’s song “Chloroform,” we jumped at the opportunity to present the exclusive premiere.

In conjunction with the Museum’s first major exhibition of sound art, Soundings: A Contemporary Score, MoMA’s PopRally committee is thrilled to present the first U.S. performance by cyclo. (Carsten Nicolai and Ryoji Ikeda), entitled cyclo.id., on October 6.
As members of the PopRally committee, the organizing group behind a program of events, concerts, screenings, and more at MoMA and MoMA PS1, we’re always thinking up ways to hold an exciting party that’s something much more than your average DJ night.
“I like boring things.” – Andy Warhol
As we prepared for the Andy Warhol: Motion Pictures exhibition, we struggled with how to create an online experience for the exhibition. Our colleagues in Graphic Design came up with a simple and elegant idea: a site where people could submit their own “screen tests” in the style of Warhol’s iconic works, and view others’ submissions. The site is live at MoMA.org/screentests.

In conjuction with the Museum’s Modern Women initiative, PopRally presents An Evening with the Raincoats at MoMA on Saturday, November 20. Today’s guest blogger, Kathleen Hanna—founding member of Bikini Kill, co-creator of the zine Riot Grrrl, and lead singer of the dance-punk band Le Tigre—will DJ the event.
