So when we received word that Sofia Coppola—who is herself represented in MoMA’s film collection—had directed a new video for Phoenix’s song “Chloroform,” we jumped at the opportunity to present the exclusive premiere.

Many people are not aware that tucked away within the MoMA organization is a film distributor. The Film Library was actually the original department, founded in 1935 to celebrate film as the art form of the 20th century.

I recently inherited a thin, soft-cover guide called Preservation of Historical Records, published by the National Research Council in 1986, which has, I suspect, long gone unreferenced in the Media and Performance Art departmental library.
