The off-white monochrome White with Rope substitutes texture for color in order to create tension in the composition. The rope at once blends with the canvas and distorts perception of the grid through its three-dimensional presence.

In 2018–19, MoMA collaborated with Google Arts & Culture Lab on a project using machine learning to identify artworks in installation photos. That project has concluded, and works are now being identified by MoMA staff.
