Hung Liu. Oliver Twist

Hung Liu

Oliver Twist

2004

Oil on canvas, two panels

New on view MoMA, Floor 2, 201

Forget capes! What makes an everyday hero?

Hung Liu did not paint kings, queens, presidents, or superheroes. Instead, she painted portraits of everyday people and workers. She believed they were the true heroes and makers of history!

Think of an everyday person in your life who is special to you. What would you include in a portrait of them?
