Stölzl was a prominent educator at the Bauhaus, where she developed the weaving workshop into one of the school’s most high-profile and experimental departments. Reflecting her personal experimentation and teaching methods, this unique work demonstrates how weaving is a form of creative expression inextricable from method and materials: the horizontal bands illustrate various methods for introducing threads into a woven surface, outlining both the medium’s limitations and its possibilities.
