The booming café-concert scene demanded a constant supply of new music, and Lautrec made numerous cover illustrations for songs sung or written by his friends. Among these was Désiré Dihau, a distant cousin of Lautrec’s who played bassoon with several Paris orchestras, including those of the Opéra de Paris and the El Dorado.
