El Techo de la Ballena (The Roof of the Whale) was a multidisciplinary group of artists, critics, and poets active in Caracas, Venezuela, between 1961 and 1968. The group protested political power and staged exhibitions in opposition to the national artistic values of abstraction and kinetic art. In November 1962, El Techo member Carlos Contramaestre organized the exhibition Homenaje a la necrofilia (Homage to necrophilia), which included works made of trash and rotting animal parts. Homenaje is the group's most famous attack on state-sponsored modernist art in Venezuela.
