Book with letterpress text; rebound with additional materials, most related to a planned but unrealized illustrated edition of Les fleurs du mal: a printed essay by Octave Uzanne (1891); six original etchings and one pencil and ink drawing by Bracquemond for the frontispiece; two sets of thirty-three wood engravings of typographic ornaments by Sotain after designs by Bracquemond; five handwritten letters among Baudelaire, Poulet-Malassis, Bracquemond, and Champfleury (1856–91); one gravure reproduction of an 1861 photograph of Baudelaire by Nadar; one etching by Bracquemond (portrait of Baudelaire, frontispiece for the 1861 second edition); three sale catalogue clippings. Bespoke rebinding and enclosure by Meunier for Samuel Putnam Avery. Rebinding: Full brown goat leather with leather onlays, gold tooling, stamping, painted details, purple satin flyleaves, marbled endpapers, gilt and gauffered page edges, and sterling silver skull clasps. Matching enclosure with built-in inner doors: brown goat leather with tooling and stamping on spine edge, decorated interior doors, gilded brass bosses with hidden lock pin, and red satin lining
