Some of the earliest known Korean films are sound films from the thirties and forties, made during the country’s colonization by a militarized Japan. The Korean Film Archive recently created new 35mm prints of seven of these features, and the Department of Film, in collaboration with The Korea Society, is proud to present the international premiere of these rarely seen films in five programs. All films are made in Korea, and are in Korean and Japanese with Korean, Japanese, and English subtitles.
Organized by Laurence Kardish, Senior Curator, Department of Film, The Museum of Modern Art, and Yuni Cho, Program Director, The Korea Society, New York.
Thanks to the Korean Film Archive and its director, Cho Sun-Hee, and to the Korean Film Council.
