Having overcome numerous obstacles during its launch (including an interrupted festival run and delayed domestic release), Better Days is certainly an apt title given where the film stands today. A box office triumph in China, this ambitious film is now nominated for Best International Film, representing Hong Kong at this year’s Academy Awards. Grounded in a young woman’s struggle with pervasive, insidious school bullying, the story expands into an unexpected tale of allyship and love. Lead by striking performances from Zhou Dongyu and Jackson Lee, Better Days continues to surprise and engage audiences around the world.
