MoMA

Samson and Delilah. 2009. Australia. Directed by Warwick Thornton

South Australia’s biennial Adelaide Film Festival celebrated its fifth edition this past February. Since its founding in 2002, the festival funds have contributed to the making of nearly 50 features, documentaries, shorts, animated films, and cross-media projects, most of which went on to have their world premieres at the festival. The track record of these festival-supported works has been both distinguished and impressive, with several features garnering critical renown and festival awards the world over.

MoMA presents a selection of these films—two of which have been featured in the Museum’s New Directors/New Films festival—including the New York premieres of a short and three features.

Organized by Laurence Kardish, Senior Curator, Department of Film.

The Museum acknowledges with thanks the participation of The Hon. Mike Rann, Premier of South Australia, who established the the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund; Cheryl Bart, the founding chairperson of the Adelaide Film Festival; and Katrina Sedgwick, the founding festival director/CEO and curator of the Fund. Thanks also to frequent partners of the AFFIF: Screen Australia, Film Victoria, Screen NSW, ABC TV, and, in particular, the South Australian Film Corporation and its CEO, Richard Harris.
