Artists have used printmaking to create some of their most profound and compelling works of art, but the basic printmaking techniques remain a mystery to most people. This small exhibition provides examples of the four main processes—woodcut, etching, lithography, and screenprint—together with some of the tools and materials that are used to produce them. A related website may be viewed at kiosks in the exhibition or online.

    How we identified these works

    In 2018–19, MoMA collaborated with Google Arts & Culture Lab on a project using machine learning to identify artworks in installation photos. That project has concluded, and works are now being identified by MoMA staff.
