Designed to complement MoMA’s Elizabeth Murray painting retrospective, Focus features a selection of approximately twenty-five prints from 1980 to the present, providing an in-depth look at the important role printmaking plays in Murray’s creative process. These works demonstrate the artist’s experimentation with a wide variety of mediums and trace her exploration of both abstract motifs and playful depictions of domestic themes. There are also examples of the ways in which Murray continues to push the boundaries of traditional printmaking with three-dimensional, shaped, and collaged editions, underscoring the collaborative relationship between artist and master printer.

Organized by Sarah Suzuki, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Prints and Illustrated Books.

How we identified these works
