What Now? Remind Me (E Agora? Lembra-me). 2013. Portugal. Written and directed by Joaquim Pinto. With Pinto, Nuno Leonel. DCP. In Portuguese; English subtitles. 164 min.
When working as a sound director in the 1980s, Joaquim Pinto started feeling symptoms of what would later be diagnosed as HIV. Friends died and projects were canceled while Pinto, fighting a then mysterious virus, met Nuno Leonel, the love of his life. Together, they made films while Pinto produced works by João César Monteiro, Teresa Villaverde, and José Álvaro Morais. With Portugal entering a harsh financial assistance program in 2011, Pinto started a film diary that became an intimate portrait of his survival with experimental treatments. Life, death, love, and politics come together in an epic portrait of a couple whose passion for life—and film—is the driving force in a miraculous journey.
