Miguel Gomes returns to where he spent his summer vacations as a young man to shoot a love story about a village girl and a young musician in a local band. As they entertain residents and immigrants returning to their native region for a few days, words and music give birth to a complicated, forbidden summer love. Gomes mixes fiction and documentary footage, including himself and his crew among a cast of nonprofessional actors who try to make sense of an adventurous, spellbinding work in progress—and one of the director’s most celebrated films.

This film accompanies The Ongoing Revolution of Portuguese Cinema.
