Teknolust. 2002. USA. Written and directed by Lynn Hershman Leeson. With Tilda Swinton, Jeremy Davies, James Urbaniak, John O’Keefe, Karen Black. 35mm. 85 min.
Tilda Swinton plays four different roles in Lynn Hershman Leeson’s hilarious, genre-breaking, sexual biogenetic comedy: scientist Rosetta Stone and Ruby, Olive, and Marine, three clones (part human, part computer) who long to free themselves from their intranet and live in the real world. Fed on doses of human sperm procured by Ruby (a promiscuous version of Rosetta’s virgin scientist who takes inspiration from classic Hollywood romances to seduce men and feed her sisters), the alter egos end up threatening human existence by causing male impotence due to technical malfunctions in their own biotechnological systems.
