What does a benevolent and fruitful collaboration with artificial intelligence look and sound like? Thirty years ago, Lynn Hershman Leeson began a project that sought to examine the ways that machines could help explain the present through visions of the future, and to propose new models of artistic invention. The results have been eerily prescient and technologically groundbreaking. Partnering with human actors such as Joan Chen and Tessa Thompson, and an AI screenwriter and designer named Sara, Hershman Leeson presents four distinct works that make up this Cyborgian Rhapsody. A conversation on June 8 brings together Lynn Hershman Leeson, Eugenia Kuyda, founder of the Replika AI app, and the chatbot named Echo to discuss this epic endeavor.
