Open Art Space is a relaxed, weekly, drop-in program for LGBTQ+ high school students and their allies who are interested in thinking about, and making, art in a creative and welcoming environment.
Join Open Art Space for a special Lunar New Year celebration! Make flowers using tissue paper, scissors, wire, and pliers, and learn how to make a tool that simplifies the flower-crafting process and helps you focus on color and shape. Finished flowers can be secured to branches and used to adorn the space.
CONFETTISYSTEM is Julie Ho and Nicholas Valite Andersen, a duo working as artists, stylists, and designers. A shared love of communal celebration and craft-making brought them together to create a new system in 2008. Their handmade objects and installations, shaped by their early years in New York City and Honolulu, draw from sensorial experiences that often occur in temples, clubs, forests, and other places of healing.
This program is free and open to all high school–age participants. No previous art-making experience or registration is necessary.
Open Art Space meets every Thursday, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building, located at 4 West 54 Street, near Fifth Avenue.
Metrocards, snacks, and supplies will be provided.
