Sometimes the best intentions can lead to nightmare situations. In the case of young, progressive, idealistic school teacher Carla (played with inspired and ever-increasing befuddlement by Leonie Benesch), every effort she makes to “do the right thing” leads to increasingly devastating results. Director Ilker Catak creates a riveting thriller from the most familiar of circumstances: a good teacher’s attempts to bring change to the confines of a German middle school. The Teachers’ Lounge took several prizes at the German Film Awards, and is Germany’s official submission for Best International Feature at the 96th Academy Awards.
