New York–based artist and filmmaker Andrew Norman Wilson joins us to present a selection of recent video works, with a special emphasis on his use of sound. Featuring high-octane narrators, found and appropriated recordings, pop-cult subject matter, and the artist’s own collaborations within the music industry, this evening’s program unfurls between personal mythologies and studies of contemporary culture. Wilson’s uncanny fictions, densely layered with an array of imaging technologies ranging from computer generated animation to hyperreal rendering techniques borrowed from architecture or medicine, delve into questions of labor and human experience in an our digitally mediated world. The screening includes the New York premiere of Wilson’s 2021 short film Impersonator, which follows a Hollywood Boulevard entertainer’s drift into uneasy fantasy, and a number of musical surprises.
