Unleash your creativity with collage! In this workshop, you can create abstract collages that represent your identity. Participants will learn simple techniques to combine color, texture, design, and form to create abstract pieces that combine painting and collage. These techniques provide participants with a framework for developing a personal aesthetic that is a reflection of their personality and interests. This workshop will be led by artist Jordany Genao.
This workshop is free, but registration is required.
This workshop is open to high school-age participants. No previous art-making experience is necessary. Metrocards, snacks, and materials are provided.
Jordany Genao is a Dominican interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Queens, NY (Lenapehoking). Their work has a reverence for nature while also building on Dominican folk art and identity, which pays homage to Arawak-Taino ancestry. Their practice emphasizes visual and theoretical connections between Arawak-taino cosmology, ceramics, Caribbean plants, and queer theory. They work primarily in ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media, with an emphasis on tactility, embodiment, and abstraction. Since Genao received their BFA from SVA in 2014, their work has been featured in group shows at Flux Factory and Turley Gallery, among others. They completed their MFA at Hunter College in May 2023.
