Mexican artist Mario García Torres uncovers lost episodes of art history and experiments with the gaps and curves of time. His work Je ne sais si c’en est la cause, in which he searches for the lost early murals of Daniel Buren on the Caribbean island of St. Croix, is currently on view in the exhibition Chosen Memories: Contemporary Latin American Art from the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Gift and Beyond. In conjunction with the exhibition, the artist joins us for an evening of screenings and dialogue on his recent projects. Featured works include the shorts Carta a Dr Atl (2005), Silence’s Wearing Thin Here (n.d.), and Falling Together in Time (n.d.). García Torres will be joined in conversation by Inés Katzenstein, Curator of Latin American Art and Director of the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Research Institute for the Study of Art from Latin America. The presentation will be followed by an audience Q&A.
