Art and Practice workshops bring together artists at all stages of their careers to learn from one other. For this session, devynn emory will facilitate a guided practice and movement workshop focused on “land somatics,” guiding participants to connect to the land they are on and from by building awareness in their own bodies through individual and collective movement. There will be room to discuss and release learned/engrained movement patterns and space to play and cultivate a celebrated returning to the essence of self. Please wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to join in bare feet or socks. Seating will be available, and you are encouraged to interpret all movement prompts in whatever way is best for your body.
This 90-minute, in-person program is for anyone who identifies as an artist. It will be followed by a casual reception. This program is free, but an application form is required. To keep the conversation intimate, registration is limited and applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. For more information, please contact [email protected]
devynn emory is a choreographer/dance artist, dual-licensed bodyworker, ritual guide, medium, and registered nurse in the fields of acute/critical care, hospice, COVID, and integrative health in New York City. emory’s performance company devynnemory/beastproductions locates the intersection of these fields, walking the edges of thresholds, drawing from their multiple in-between states of being, holding space for liminal bodies and bridging multiple planes of transition while finding reciprocity practice as a constant decolonial pathway. They are currently working on and touring a multimedia performance trilogy centering medical mannequins that hold the wisdom of end-of-life experiences. Born on Lenape Land, emory is a reconnecting descendant of mixed Lenape/Blackfoot/settler ancestry. They live on Lenape Munsee and Canarsee land (Brooklyn, NY).
