This swashbuckling, off-the-wall Shrek spin-off brings one of the franchise’s secondary characters, Puss (Antonio Banderas), into the spotlight. With a stacked voice cast featuring Zach Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton, and, of course, Salma Hayek as feline fatale Kitty Softpaws, Puss in Boots intricately weaves together multiple classic fairy tales, with the titular cat at the fore. Widely considered by critics to be a shining example of the modern family film, its deft fight choreography and vivid 3D animation separates Puss in Boots from its peers. Del Toro even has a voice acting credit as Puss’s nemesis, Comandante.
