This prize-winning film by Paragyuan director Paz Encina is a lyrical and sensitive portrayal of the Ayoreo-Totobiegosode people, whose ancestral homelands in the Gran Chaco region are critically threatened by illegal deforestation. Blending documentary with Indigenous mythologies, EAMI follows a young girl who wanders the forest following her community’s expulsion from their home. Developed in close collaboration with the Ayoreo community, the film’s immersive soundscape is a collage of interviews that guides Eami through a magical-realist landscape marked by real-life violence in a powerful form of witnessing.
