Two gorgeous fashion models in love find money a sore source of conflict. Aboard a luxury yacht—a vacation gifted by sponsors—they find themselves in the midst of the super rich and an underclass service staff. Things change suddenly when an extended, monstrous, and literal shitstorm sweeps away all the privileges and misfortune, and those with basic survival skills are the last to stand tall. Swedish writer-director Ruben Östlund’s followup to his Cannes Palme d’Or winner The Square (2017) is yet another wicked dark comedy that takes a scathing look at power dynamics, the influence of money and resources, and ugly human instincts, and it earned him a second Palme d’Or this year.
