Screenplay by Dwight Taylor, Allan Scott. With Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire, Edward Everett Horton, Erik Rhodes, Eric Blore, Helen Broderick. A trivial mistaken-identity plot drives one of the most celebrated Hollywood musicals. Beginning in London, where Ginger mistakes Fred for the philandering husband (Edward Everett Horton) of her best friend (Helen Broderick), the setting shifts to a deliriously art deco version of Venice for the climax. The Irving Berlin score occasions perhaps the most elegant of the Astaire-Rogers duets, “Cheek to Cheek.”
