Artist Pepón Osorio joins us for a live conversation with Beverly Adams, Estrellita Brodsky Curator of Latin American Art, about Osorio’s artistic practice, with a focus on his use of the moving image throughout his career and his commitment to critically engaging with issues of race and social justice. Drawing from his background in social work and performance, Osorio constructs elaborate, emotionally charged sculptures and installations that are brought to life with video footage. He works directly with members of specific communities to understand their experiences and social dynamics before conveying pieces of their stories through his signature large-scale installations. Osorio will discuss Badge of Honor (1995) (currently on view on at MoMA), as well as his use of the moving image in works such as Scene of a Crime—which was first shown at the Whitney Biennial in 1993—and more recent projects.
