An ode, in distinct chapters, to the glory days of deeply researched magazine reporting, Anderson’s tenth film has intense notes of tobacco, coffee, and oil paint. Thinly veiled interpretations of literary greats of yore are delivered by the acting greats of today: Frances McDormand, Jeffery Wright, Tilda Swinton, and so on. Set in a familiar-feeling French town, Anderson’s latest reveals the art behind the artifice and leaves us yearning for his next chapter.
